James A. Moore // Founder & Managing Partner

With more than 10-years of operational experience in the software industry, along with two decades spent on Wall Street, Jim brings unrivaled insight to every phase of the business life cycle, from start-up to established public company. In the course of his career, he has raised more than $4 billion for clients in America, Europe, Israel and Asia.

From his work as an analyst and investor, Jim has gained a deep understanding of fundamental technology trends, including big data, cloud and mobile computing, social media, enterprise software and healthcare IT. He also has unmatched transactional expertise by virtue of his extensive involvement with hundreds of M&As, IPOs, follow-on offerings, private placements and the like.

Jim keeps up his “hands on” knowledge of the operational side of companies through his investment and close mentoring of tech startups, from advisement on business plans and financial structuring to development of teams and products. He is currently working with companies in cloud computing, social gaming, ecommerce and new media.

Prior to establishing J. Moore in 2008, Jim was managing director of North Point Advisors, an M&A firm which he helped grow to the $9 billion transaction level. Before that, he was a partner at Alex. Brown, and then, following its acquisition by Deutsche Bank, served as managing director of technology research. Among the companies he followed as an analyst were such industry giants as Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon and SAP.

Jim arrived on Wall Street in the early 1990s after ten years of experience in technical and operational positions with various software companies. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, The Economist and Forbes. He has also been a frequent guest on CNBC, CNN and Bloomberg News.

Jim holds a BA in Economics from the University of Colorado and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He lives with his family in San Francisco. Outside of work and home, he has a keen interest in programs to improve math and science education for intermediate and high school students. He was recognized as Man of the Year by the San Francisco YMCA for his dedication to helping underserved youth in the community.

Kathryn Pellegrini Inglin // Director

A fourth-generation San Franciscan, Kathryn has strong corporate, community and media relationships throughout the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Her interest and early adoption of digital marketing strategies guides her coverage of the firm’s perspectives in mobile, new media, ad tech and social media. She also leads business development efforts globally, and is responsible for the firm’s marketing and talent acquisition. She has spent more than a decade working with CEOs and founders launching and cultivating products in technology, finance, healthcare, education, food and wine, media and consumer products. Among the companies and institutions with whom she has worked closely are Wells Fargo, Stanford Hospital & Clinics, San Francisco State University, The Examiner, Nantucket Nectars, SoBe and many more.

Prior to joining J. Moore Partners, Kathryn was vice president at MacKenzie Communications, where she managed the firm’s education and healthcare practices and developed its strategy to introduce social media, viral marketing and e-communications into its campaigns. She also presented lectures at the University of San Francisco and professional organizations on the future of marketing, and its integration with new technology.

She works with rising tech entrepreneurs and is on the organizing committee for the Silicon Valley SVForum’s Main Event series. She is also involved with TiE, TedEx Bay Area and Women 2.0. Kathryn is deeply connected with her community and serves in volunteer leadership roles with the San Francisco Symphony, Susan G. Komen For the Cure, Bay Area Red Cross, Italian Community Services and the Salesian Boys and Girl’s Club.

Kathryn is also a vintner, and launched a direct-to-consumer wine business for Pellegrini Family Vineyards, with a wine club, hospitality program and online platform that allowed the company to expand its sales beyond the traditional distributor channel. She holds a BA from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Journalism.

Rob Henley

Rob Henley // Associate

Rob started as an analyst at J. Moore Partners in 2010, and quickly became an associate after his successful work with several high-valuation transactions. He is interested in the fastest-growing sectors of the Internet and software industries, and leads the firm’s coverage of new media, Enterprise 2.0, ad tech, ecommerce and healthcare IT. In addition to executing and investigating transactions in these areas, Rob is constantly searching for new trends and innovative ideas.

Prior to joining the team at J. Moore, Rob worked as a financial analyst at M2S, Inc., a New Hampshire-based healthcare IT firm. At M2S, he developed a working knowledge of healthcare IT and was responsible for evaluating the company’s strategic initiatives. Rob earned his BA in economics from Dartmouth College, where he was also the captain of the varsity men’s golf team. When not in the office, Rob can be found at Hackathons, CrunchUps, and Demo Days, seeking out exciting start-ups throughout San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Alena Lagunina // Research Analyst

Alena graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Finance and Economics and joined J. Moore Partners as a research analyst in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. During her academic career, she participated in several case competitions and acquired an interest in finance and technology.  At J. Moore Partners, she supports the team by conducting research and due diligence in areas of the firm’s expertise such as mobile and cloud computing, social media, enterprise software, and healthcare IT. Alena moved to the U.S. from her native Russia five years ago as part of an exchange program. Aside from Russian and English, she is also fluent in Spanish, which she uses to discover exciting startups in Europe, South America and other regions around the globe. Alena resides in Washington D.C., has a passion for traveling during her free time and is currently training for her first half-marathon.

Kristen Licht // Analyst

As an analyst at J. Moore Partners, Kristen covers ecommerce, new media and tech entertainment. She supports transaction work and is deeply involved in the Bay Area entrepreneur community through her participation with SVForum, Startup Grind and Girls in Tech. She also works on J. Moore’s merchant banking programs and overall operations. Before joining J. Moore, Kristen was the marketing director for Prudential California Realty’s network of offices in Northern California, where her marketing and branding efforts helped the company more than double its size in 2011. Kristen gained her initial exposure to the financial services industry through an internship with KPMG LLP in London. She earned her BA in marketing from the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. Kristen resides in San Francisco, is an active runner and serves on the junior board of Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she is also a mentor.

Paul Sutton // Director

Paul Sutton is a seasoned technology executive and proven entrepreneur with strong global experience and contacts. At home dealing with all aspects of a technology organization, Paul has crafted a reputation as a respected leader, manager and industry voice. Paul has a track record of building successful businesses , having served as an executive in both public and private companies, a member of founding teams, a proven CEO and a member of multiple boards,. As an executive and advisor, he has proven his ability to attract both institutional and private investors to various ventures through their entire growth and M&A lifecycles.

Paul began his career in systems programming and communications software architecture at a major computer manufacturer. Using that deep technical training as a foundation, he progressed through all aspects of technical and field management into top executive roles. He has consistently shown his ability to understand key value propositions, craft successful business models and grow companies to their optimum.

Paul’s experience includes being CEO of iQuate and Kabira Technologies, along with holding senior management roles at Boole & Babbage. He hails from Leeds, is an avid golfer and gardening enthusiast. He lives in San Francisco.

Kristy Kim // Analyst

Kristy joined J. Moore Partners as an analyst focused on Asian technology companies, especially those involved in mobile and Internet software. She is responsible for new business generation and transaction execution efforts. Her primary areas of focus include cross border transactions and deals generated outside of North America.

A native of Seoul, she has strong ties with the tech community in South Korea, and in addition to Korean, is fluent in Chinese and Japanese. Prior to joining J. Moore, Kristy mentored Chinese technology companies, helping guide their business development. She studied marketing and finance at some of Asia’s most prestigious universities, including Beijing University, Renmin University of China and Osaka University. Kristy went on to receive a BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in San Francisco, and enjoys meeting entrepreneurs and hearing their inspiring stories. Outside of work, Kristy is passionate about marathon training, traveling and the arts.

Mike Greco // Analyst

Mike joined J. Moore Partners as an analyst after graduating from the University of Southern California with a BS in Finance. During his time at USC, Mike held internships in business development at UBS and new ventures at Aerus, where he developed an interest in working with young companies. His interest in startups and finance led him to San Francisco after completing school. At J. Moore Partners, Mike is deeply involved with business development and industry research. His research focuses on the enterprise, security, mobile, and ad tech sectors. He is involved with SFNewTech and Startup Grind, where he actively seeks out fast growing startups in the hottest tech sectors. A former baseball player for USC and West Point, Mike is an avid athlete. If he’s not meeting hot companies in the SF tech scene, he can often be found on the basketball court or the football field.

David Oh // Managing Director

David Oh leads the Asian operation of J. Moore Partners and has over thirty years of combined IT and investment related experience in Asia and the US.

Previously, David was the CEO and Managing Partner of IDG Ventures Korea, where he managed a $100M fund focused on early stage companies. During his time with IDG Ventures Korea, David directed investments in companies operating in sectors such as internet/mobile, software, and social/online gaming and he served on the board of seven portfolio companies. Prior to joining IDG Ventures Korea, David was a Managing Director of North Asia at International Data Corporation (IDC), a US market intelligence and consulting firm specializing in information and communication technology. He was responsible for over direction and daily operations of Asian countries, including China, Korea and Taiwan. He initially joined IDC in Mountain View, California as a Director of Business Development in 1996 and began overseeing the Korean operations in 1997.

Preceding IDC, David was a Regional Director at Dataquest/Gartner Group in the Asia Pacific region and was responsible for conducting market research and analyzing the computer systems and software industry. His professional career also includes time at ResearchAsia, as well as Samsung Electronics.

David currently serves as Vice Chairman of Angel Investor Association and an adviser & mentor to Sprout Forum startups. Previously, David served as a member of the Top Opinion Leaders Group in the Korean IT industry, whose members include ex-ministers, top executives of Conglomerate Chaebols, university professors, and more.

David lives in Seoul and holds an M.B.A. from Sogang University in Seoul, Korea.  He is a cycling enthusiast and has biked hundreds of miles throughout Korea.  He enjoys history,  travel and adventure, having drove the entire Alaskan highway and  can also be found golfing all over the world.

Austin Lilly // Analyst

Austin recently graduated from Colgate University, and joined J. Moore Partners as an analyst.  With an interest in technology and finance, Austin relocated to the Bay Area to work closely with growth companies and investors.  Previously, he held internships in International Corporate Development at Best Buy Company and in Mergers & Acquisitions at Marquette Financial Companies.   At J. Moore Partners, Austin supports business development, industry research and transaction work. He is active in the enterprise software, mobile tech, ad tech and e-commerce sectors.  Austin is an avid sailor, and has participated in several regattas and small boat competitions.  You can also find him playing golf on the links, or swinging a hockey stick on the ice.

Kathryn Stewart // Managing Director

Kathryn Stewart leads the East Coast operation of J. Moore Partners and has over twenty years of experience working with high growth technology companies and investors.

Previously, Kathryn was a partner at Alex. Brown and post acquisition, served as a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank. She was the Co-Head of the Baltimore based region and managed six sales teams for product distribution in New York, the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest. With focus on Technology and Health Care, she collaborated with cross functional teams across investment banking, equity capital markets and research. Transactions included initial public offerings, follow-on offerings, convertibles, and private placements. She was fortunate to have worked with great growth companies and overall transactions included $8.7 billion of Application Software, $5.7 billion of Internet Software and Services and $9.9 billion of Health Care IT. She implemented the Firm’s growth strategy through participation in its Equity Review Committee and was chairman of the Deal Marketing Committee, preparing management teams for initial public offerings.

Preceding Alex. Brown, Kathryn was an engineer for a Fortune 100 Company in its Telecommunications Division. Her design and implementation work included 450 MHZ radio, 2 GHZ microwave and voice/data network design.

Kathryn actively invests in Angel, Venture and Private Equity on behalf of a Private Family Office and is an investment committee member for the DC based Investor Partners Fund.

Kathryn holds an MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University.
